To start off, this is my first blog, and the reason being is that every time I search for something about maple story, I always end up here. This intrigued me. I used to have a blog on RO diary back in my Ragnarok Online days, and it was fun telling people what happened, especially through the eyes of my character (and I also found a few people to play with).
Now, I don’t have anything particularly interesting to say about my level 18 archer and mage, so I’ll just go off on a general rant about the people I’ve observed.
I started playing Maple Story about a year or so ago, probably more, as a Male character. I spent time playing with my RL best friend, Jason, and his thief. After getting to level 21, i lost my internet connection for a half a year and was unable to play.
Then, two weeks ago, i got my internet back, only to find that somehow, my maple story folder was nuked from my hard drive, including all my screenshots of my wonderfully gay Archer, Thaeres. I was sad, and it took me over 4 days to reinstall it, so much that I had to resort to playing Yohoho puzzle pirates. And when i finally got on….
I couldn’t remember my password.
NOTHING i tried worked, and I was devastated, not only because I couldn’t log in, but because the password retrieval on the website is BROKEN. I had to start over.
And that is where the story really begins.
I logged on to my new character and there were all these new features (Like choosing your characters’ gender when you first log in, which would have given me a female account when i first started (I forgot to change it from male)) that made me think “Wow, if this was my first time playing, I wouldn’t even bother, it’s such a hassle to play for the first time.”
But I love Maple Story, so I kept going.
When I dragged my butt out of Maple Island, I found the Broa server to be less crowded than before. I also found that there was (sadly) a larger population of actual noobs.
Before I continue, let me point out what “noob” REALLY means. IT is a person who spams, kill steals, scams, steals loot that the person was obviously trying to get and does not give it back when asked, defames for no reason, hacks, insults other players and makes then game generally unenjoyable for the honest players. “Noob” is the worst insult you can give to a gamer, and people toss it around like a Caesar salad. Take note on how it’s different from “newb,” short for newbie, a player who is new to the game, and therefore does not know what they are doing.
In any case, I played by my self a lot, and tried not to let noobs get me down, when I realized that the influx of hackers and random defamers was out of hand. I died twice and got randomly defamed by people twice. I’m annoyed.
I do not believe in random Defaming. I believe that it is pointless, and should only be given to people who are such morons that they deserve a -30 fame. This is what friends and guilds are for. MASS HUMILIATION OF IDIOTS.
I do, however, promote and support random Faming. It makes others feel good about helping and being nice, and it helps to circulate good will. It’s better to save your daily faming allowance for people who are good, kind, honest and honorable players then wasting it on people who annoy you a little. Plus, if you defame someone by yourself, the person defamed does not know the perpetrator for the attack and can’t retaliate. However, a fame to a good person improves the gaming community as a whole.

I wish I could give all of the above players lots of hugs (or if they dislike hugs, rare items). The gaming world would be better if more people like you guys existed. Thanks for renewing my faith in the multiplayer community.

Welcome to MMOT! I used to play MapleStory too, until all the stuff you were talking about got me down. Then I went to MSEA, which had a better community at the time I played, until they started blocking outside-SEA IPs. Now I just play Flyff and Scions of Fate.

Well, if you ever decide to play in Broa of GMS, I’m starting a roleplaying guild, where the only requirements are to roleplay and have an actual name (no numbers or symbols, except for underscores to make a firstname lastname type name). so

true, all too true. Love the fact that you actually defined noob for what it is instead of what its now used for. I’m finding the good old mass humiliation does not work anymore though due to the same people handing out random defaming have guilds of people just like them selves out to ruin the game. I had two things invoulving fame today that finly illistrate the point. Today I watched some poor girl get defamed about 6 times because she had defamed one for ks her. I told her to report them along with the contents of the messages they were spamming but i’m not sure she did. As i said in mine and you made clear I dont know that nexon even cares. Anyways another example was what I might blog on tommarow, some level 15 thief asked for 2k to buy his weapon. I gave it too him as I had just picked up a scroll and was feeling pretty good but than he defamed me. Honest mistake right, sept for the laughing, so much for a charatable day.
