Chapter 6: The Tormenting Path to Kerning

My running had slowed to a quick walk now and I took in the glimpse of the beautiful scenery of the morning. There was an orange radiance coming from the hills way down yonder, an unreachable place, and the endless sky was now a deep shade of purple with a hint of red entangled in it. Shadows flooded the ground, as the dark, green grass swayed in the wind. The morning was coming to life once again as sounds came to existence and the world seemed to renew its life.

All around me the land was littered with strange colorful flowers, and autumn trees that never slept and just stood there absorbing all the knowledge that passed by them. The trees had long branches extending out with leaves of all different colors like brown, orange, and green. Lots of them were scattered around on the ground, decorating the land. The rich, sweet scent of the air overflowed into my nostrils and I felt calmness dominate over me. The region had many hills jutting from the ground and many ledges to climb. At least I get a head start over all the angry villagers that will surely track me down. I was not flustered by the fact that I would be running from people who wanted me in captivity. I had been traveling all my life and I was not afraid to break away again.

The journey went on and the track of time escaped from my senses. Struggling up ledges and slowly sliding along, like a snail does, up steep knolls that anchored my legs further into the ground I raced onwards. My head was dripping with sweat and I uneagerly went along with the flow of the motion of my body. I stared at the ground and once in a while tilted my head up to see how much ground I had covered. The sun rays beat down streaks of radiance onto my back and battered me down even more, my strength was cowering. To add to the pain that came with my un-halting endurance a sound strayed into my ear view. A deep blast from a horn sailed all the way across seas of hills and warned me to quicken my pace. No doubt, they probably know I’ve escaped their clutches. Gotta use these potions sparingly, don’t know what I could run into out here.

The path I was creating came across many obstacles in my way, which I bypassed, with much ease. The sun was now floating magnificently and magically in the sky with its shining body flashing onto the stretching lands. I had just reached another hilltop, conquering several before it, and I stood there for awhile, breathing. My shirt was soaked with sweat and small cuts and bruises, covering my slightly, tan skin, marked the outcomes of my battles. I surveyed the remaining sweep I still had to cross.

Suddenly, the corner of my eyesight targeted a scene of violence. There was a little warrior, far below, trying to fight off numberless hordes of enemies that had ganged up on him. The animals were ones I had encountered before. Various monsters appeared, but the green mushmoms seemed to be more populous. I could only experience the horrible murder through my eyes because the ground lay extremely far below me and I would never reach the place in time, dashing down the hills, without getting even more worn up. The scene was partly hidden from me because my vision blurred when looking that far and I tried squinting my eyes. In seconds, the boy was forced into surrender and gave up, but instead of killing him, the shrooms with blue caps swept him off his feet and carried him away, disappearing into a small cave which was lost from my sight.

Strange. They didn’t get rid of him right away. What would they want to keep him for? Well, anyways I better watch my back or I might get ambushed also.

I took a tiny sip of the white potion that was filling one of the glass bottles. Amounts of energy sank into me as I swallowed the cold, heavenly tasting drink and let it ride into my stomach. Once again, I’m off to the city called ….what was it again… ummm….er..i. Something with the letters ‘n’ and ‘r’.

The ground swept me along with it, as I jogged through a downward sloping earth. The grass was bent and trampled from the feet that previously had tread here. At one point, when I was descending, I almost tripped over a small pile of soil, but luckily I had recovered quickly.

I was now wandering through fields, looked over on, by trees that seemed to spring up in more places. My expedition became easier and it slacked a little as evening crept over the areas. The beautiful night sky became apparent soon after. The moon already shown in the sky, leaping out with a brilliance of light and exquisiteness. The trees creating a wind that peacefully drafted in the atmosphere. Darkness enveloped mini crevices and started crawling out into the open as it began its procedure to destroy light. The flash of the moon was too powerful though and the night sounds took their places in the night and everything else settled into a lazy slumber.

Except me. I continued on. I was still wide awake and my thoughts took over me as I plummeted deep into them. What shall become of me, I wonder. How am I supposed to be the hero if I can’t figure out anything for myself. Crap! What the heck is this BS that I have to do amazing feats. Man, I don’t even understand this. Even more questions filled my head now, part of the reason for that was because I had more information stored up. Aaah!!!! How can people live with themselves knowing so much or is it only me that my brain tortures. In the silence of the night, a sound broke the quietude and it came from my stomach, as it let out a frightening roar signaling that I was hungry, again.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Daybreak prowled up behind me and scared the nothing out of me. I hadn’t eaten for forty two hours and I was mighty famished when I discovered a bramble of strawberries resting next to the road. I kneeled down and greedily hogged all the fruits and stuffed them into my mouth. My hands clawed ferociously and they became scraped up against the sharp twigs. They worked fervently to satisfy my appetite and made room in my gaping jaws whenever was needed. A short while later, I was spread out on the ground, my hands and face blood red. I got up again a while later after a short rest and found out my strength had transmitted back to me Too bad there were no pie bushes my mind scowls.

I was upright in a green stadium that consisted of floating platforms and those were buried beneath bunches of various pretty flowers. The midair arenas were built up by wide trees that held everything together. The sky seemed almost touchable and the heights were amazing. I scrambled up a tree trunk, using my fruit stained hands to grab on to branches and swiftly move up. Reaching the top of the wooden giant I kicked over onto the platform and rolled more into the stage of levitating land. Oh great! This is gonna be a blast to ramble through. I thought to myself sarcastically.

A buzz and a minuscule earthquake happened. Strangely, my feet hadn’t felt a movement. Swoosh! A dark, ghostly shadow swung over my head. I quickly ducked, but not in time. Fortunately, the evil figure had missed giving me a shaving of a strip of hair. Fear arose in my brain, as I studied the mysterious something that had bombarded through the air. A sensor went off and the head ache that always seemed to show up at the wrong time, created itself in my cerebellum. My body stiffened and I readied my sword. The creature flew motionless in the air for awhile and I could observe it. It was a black monster with features that didn’t stand out, but rather camouflaged themselves. The deadly, black stinger, the bee shaped body, the long wings that folded in the middle and extending skin formed into its tiny, razor sharp claws were attributes that made the beast look horribly scary and frighteningly ugly.

The black mass changed its motion and dived at me this time, aiming for my face. I evaded the attack and swung my sword immediately with purpose at the bee-like thing. My sword dealt a heavy, sharp blow on the target having struck it right in the middle of the back. The creature dropped down to the ground. With a last rush forward it dashed at me, its head level with the area just below my kneecaps and I easily batted it away with a golf motion swing. The squeal died as the being disappeared.

Reinforcements materialized instantly and I had no period of time to celebrate my victory. The cloud of blood thirsty mutants bolted at me with terribly, spectacular speed and I trembled behind my sword hoping it would protect me. With brave determination, I swung my sword in chop-like motions with an incredible swing. Back and forth I swerved it, hoping to kill some of them. The creatures seemed to be made of darkness. I took out quite a lot of the little blood suckers and as they fell to the ground, they seemed to diminish into emptiness. Even more excitement was added on to the brawl as I spotted a group of two archers coming from a distant hill.

I started to sprint and the bat-like creatures followed, with their wings cutting swiftly through the air, which seemed non-existent to them. I still kept twirling my steel sword about, plucking the annoying flyers out of the sky. I reached an end to one of the dangerous, floating platforms and I faced the darkness that almost knocked me off the edge. It seemed like more of them were appearing But from where?. My hands turned in different variations as more of darkness was slain, which created no mess on the ground, leaving no evidence behind. I climbed down, losing my balance on the bottom. I noticed their were walls which kept making my path veer up and down, and repeatedly the same action occurred. I kept the evil discomforts at bay and proceeded overwhelming them with attacks of fury showered upon them. Each time, more strength and power leaked out of my body, and I felt I would be empty soon.

The pair of human snipers, dressed in armor covered in white silk with a tough shell hidden in it, hunting me had gained on me and were nearing closer, their faces possessing expressions of bewilderment. From a length, they started their assailment of arrows upon me. Troubles were increasing for me as I had to hold off an increasing tribe of darkness and at the same moment had to dodge arrows that were barreling towards me with precision and skill.

A heard a peep come from one of the men and he hinted,” What are those gruesome monstrosities, they are unlike any I’ve glimpsed before.”

The contract killers drew nearer to me as they struggled to get a decent shot of my leaping, flailing figure which was dancing around and cutting down the animals of darkness. I came once again to the top of a climb and spied a particularly long platform in front of me. Oh crap! Those archers will gun me down easily. Gotta think of a plan and quick or I could just use my ballerina skills!

I tore through the length of the field, as the archers put themselves into position, their range fairly close to me. I still had to outmaneuver the bats that scampered at me trying to deter my path. I burst through their slimy bodies and kept sprinting for my gold, which was the end of the long trail.

As an arrow sped towards me, I tucked my right shoulder inward and executed an imperfect roll, coming out of the position laying on my side. Using my hands I pushed up and vaulted back to being level with the ground. I yet again kept on bustling straight. My feet left the ground as a group of bats swept in snatching a piece of my grey shirt and I was thrown into the air. The cloud of living darkness, with barely any strength, let go as fast as they had picked me up and I was dumped to the dirt floor. I leaped up at the same exact moment as an arrow was placed into the perimeter of my hand and using my lightning quick reflexes I grasped the tail of it and shoved the missile, with a revolving motion, into the swarms black heart.

As gravity shoved me down, I landed, feeling a big impact take effect on my back. With agility and determination to survive, I launched back up and fought on. I spiked my sword, with a ninety degree angle, into the air and impaled another one and let it slide of my sword, with a great, wave of force originating from my motion of the hands. It shot towards the one archer that had had the guts to still chase me. He, with nervousness and intense swiftness, loaded a long wooden bullet into his crossbow, which was designed with silver streaks of metal coming off the sides. The splat was initiated as the mini dragon was struck by death blow.

I had kept on persevering and was now starting my ascent up a wall of bark protruding by the trees. The arrows struck at the places where my feet would have ended up if I had not kept scrambling upwards. Splits of wood were heard cracking as more and more arrows aimed at me, slipped their moving bull’s eye, and landed just outside the borders of my shape.

As I made it over the top, their was exponentially multiplied opponents of flight waiting for me and the bowman had not bothered to move from his safe firing spot. I rammed towards the bats and took a huge leap, mustered up by tons and tons of muscles working together in my body at the same action. The last zooming stick of wood thundered right under the place where my legs joined and it combined with a different objective, from which it had set out to accomplish, making the birds of night sky color divide into different areas. And as I fell I noted nothing below my feet to touch down upon for at least twenty feet, other than a bundle of yellow, long stemmed flowers.
