Not much of a productive day… I can’t quite recall on everything I did. Let’s see.
I was at fire drakes for a time, with Za. And at some point we went to Omega Sector to help me work on some quests. Then that somehow lead to boredom.
“Want to go to the Ludi Pet JQ?”
“Alright.”
Which lead to such. We spent alot of time there, training our pets. For a few hours, actually. It was almost like a bloody workout. Without my beloved haste… Oh. My pet here is Vivi the rabbit. Had him for a bit, since the first day rabbits existed on gMS. I like to imagine story-wise though, about him. How about a bit of a mini-tale? Been thinking alot about it. So here it is:
~
Ayame the fox-thief sat on a bench by the Pet Walk in the sunny, cheery Ludibrium. The last few days hadn’t brought her much progress in training or treasure hunting, so idle-ness took over. Her friend Za was running laps around the park with his pet reindeer Noel. A stunning sight. They could run laps for what seemed like ages.
Or not.
Za came and plopped over the bench beside Ayame, who was brushing Vivi’s fuzzy-fluff fur. “Oooh, you’re such a cute little morselie. You’re so lucky I’m not cooking you for dinner for being so stubborn though.”
Vivi looked like he didn’t care. “Eeh, you’d never eat me even if you were hungry. It’s always been like that.”
Ayame glared. “Don’t push it.”
As confusing as this predator-prey relationship was, Za didn’t mind the arguements too much. Until they actually started to physically strike each other. He had to ask though.
“… I’ve always wondered. How come Vivi is with you in the first
place? How did he ever come around? Randomly you joined up with the
others, and there he was on your head.”
Ayame laughed. “Hah… Long story. Since we’re not doing anything,
wanna hear it?”
He shrugged. “Sure. Why not.”
“Well, alright. A few months ago, when I was in the forests of Henesys, I was heading to the airport in Ellinia to Ossyria. On my way there, I heard a sudden rustling in the bushes. Instinctively, I tossed a tobi in that direction. My ears perked to a high shriek, so I went to checkout what I caught. Upon inspection, it appeared to be a white ball of fuzz cowering in fear. Just barely missing the shuriken. I walked over to it, and couldn’t help but poke it. He was a white rabbit, just the size of a Maple football. Once again, he was lucky I wasn’t hungry. Picking him up, he seemed to cuddle me a bit. Instantly I fell for the thing. So cute. He couldn’t speak human at first, but he seemed intelligent enough. If I were to keep him as, what you call a ‘pet’, I knew I had to give him a name.”
Vivi’s black collar had a shiny nametag.
“Vivi came to mind. Small, just like him. So that’s how it started. Slowly, after talking to him alot and having him hang out with the rest of our pets, he suddenly began to talk human. It was easier to communicate with him this way, I figured.”
“Kyuu~”
“Though things… have gotten a little weirder.”
Ayame placed him down, and stood up.
“Why so?” Za asked.
The thief looked at this rabbit. “Well. I don’t know. I’m beginning to think there’s alot more to him. He said he’s starting to remember things of his past.”
Vivi looked up to his master. “… You wanna end up telling him the whole woot, huh?”
Ayame smiled. “As your master, I can do whatever I want of you. But as your friend… I’ll ask. Will you give me permission to go on?”
The albino sniffed. “… Keh. Go ahead. Noel, let’s go jump around stuff.”
Noel the reindeer followed. “You don’t do anything else but that!”
As they ran off, Ayame continued.
“See… a few nights ago, we were having another one of those arguements over his stubbornness. Midspeech he said something weird though, fell out accidently or something. ‘Don’t be like how she used to be!’ I asked him about where that came from, and what the heck he was talking about. Vivi said he didn’t know where that comment really came from or why. But he did say something hit him when he yelled it. Like, something from the back of his mind.”
Za stared in confusement. “… You just lost me there.”
“Yea, I’m pretty lost myself. Then just yesterday, he acted weirdly. More cuddly than usual. ‘Please… Don’t ever stop caring for me.’ I mean, talk about odd. Especially coming from Vivi. So I sat down with him, and asked again. ‘Have you remembered something? You’re acting differently.’ All he said was… ‘I know that if I stay close to you,
you’ll help me remember my past.'”
The archer was at a complete loss. “I wonder now… who’s crazy. Is it you, me, or Vivi? Or all of the above?”
Ayame just laughed. “Hahaha, I have no clue anymore, either. But, I have a hunch there’s more to Vivi’s mood swings that just it. Female-instincts, I guess. Excuse me.”
She walked off to pick up Vivi. “Vivi,” she whistled, “let’s go and hitch a ride back to Victoria. Za, I’ll see you around.”
Za waved as she and Vivi ran off to catch the next ship.
Upon turning a corner towards the port, Ayame tripped over Vivi. “Ow! Hey, Vivi, watch where you run!”
“Well, I’m sorry you’re such a klutz! Get off me, you’re gaining too much weight slacking off all the time!”
“Gasp. I cannot… BELIEVE… you’d tell me that! Vivi… BAD BOY!”
“Argh, I’m not an animal! Stop telling me things like that!”
Ayame stared at him in amazement. ‘Not an animal’? Now something was really up. She pounced on the rabbit.
“Alright, you’ve been really, REALLY fishy lately. I intend for you to speak up.” The thief glared, licking her lips. “I’m tired of your stubbornness. When I first took care of you, you were never this rebellious. Now you’re in need of a temper shot.”
She continued to stare her ‘pet’ down. Vivi glared back with an outraged look… which suddenly, slowly died down to a remorseful one.
Ayame jumped at the sudden change. He looked so sad… And she didn’t enjoy it. Sad faces from adorable things poked at her strings.
“Aaah. Alright, I’m sorry.” She held him up and sat down. “But please, what has gotten int-“
Before she could finish, a great force knocked her back. Her eyes were closed… and when she reopened them.
“I… like you so much! Don’t yell at me, Ayame! I just tried so hard for you to like me as your pet! You’re a good friend! Please don’t yell! I’m sorry for being stubborn! I’ll be good! Don’t punish me…”
Ayame’s mouth dropped. What was in her hands was no longer a rabbit.
There sat clinging to her a small boy in low-level mage clothing. His hair was a pure white, and two large fly-aways popping out of it. Sort of like rabbit ears. This young lad was crying on her shirt.
“What… in Grendel’s name is going on here?!”
The boy peered up with sad, deep red eyes. It was a heartbreaking look.
“… No… this.. couldn’t be. It can’t be.”
He tried to crack a smile in his tears. “I remember everything now…”
Ayame had a blank look on her face.
“… I’m seriously going to need a few days before I’m able to hear whatever you’re gonna say.”
This boy, apparently, was Vivi the rabbit. Hugging his master, he spoke slowly. His tearful voice uttered.
“I used to be an apprentice mage to a witch deep in Ellinia… I couldn’t meet her expectations, and as punishment, she turned me into a rabbit. She said that only remembering my past would be able to change me back freely… and the only thing to trigger my memories would be to feel emotions only a human could. However… I think I should be able to change back into a rabbit at anytime. For so long, I tried to remember, so terribly tried… Ayame, this was all you! Oh, thank you…”
Ayame didn’t want to hear any more from this child. “Save it… please… FOR PETE’S SAKE, this is gonna make me cry…! I’m glad I was a part of your saving, but… what am I gonna do with you, a human child?! Hey-“
Vivi hugged harder. “Please, keep me with you for as long as you can, until I find my real home! I’ll transform back into a rabbit so I could stay with you! Please, oh please, oh please-“
“ALRIGHT! … Aaah, so cuddly! Your hair as soft as rabbit fur… Vivi, my friend, I’ll keep you until that day comes. Just keep your ears up, and your mouth shut about all this to the others. This is just too good, complicated, and long a story to explain…”
“Aww, Kit, I’ll always be around with you! Always! By the way, we missed the ship.”
Reality struck back. Whatever the heck reality was.
“Arrrgh… DAMN IT, VIVI! BAD BOY! THIS WAS ALL YOUR FAULT.”
“…”
Ayame stood up angrily, while Vivi changed back into a rabbit. Once he perched on her back, the thief held her head in aching. Together they waited for the next ship.
“Nothing makes sense anymore… Absolutely… nothing.”
