The Fire Within Ch- 8

Vanya kissed his wife goodbye. He was going on a trip to Orbis to consult with his 3rd job advisor. There were questions he needed answering. Answers that were questioned. He put on his Dark Enigmatic, grasped his Kage, and set off for the station in Ellinia. Along the way, he saw two assassins cornering a pretty little cleric. The two of them had their Steelies in their hands, ready to strike. Sighing, Vanya teleported over to the two assassins, grabbed them both by the collars of their armor, and then teleported them to the highest branch of the highest tree in the forest.

“Pick on someone your own size. I’m a hypocrite aren’t I?” Vanya laughed. The two assassins dropped their Steelies in fright. Vanya teleported down to the ground and caught the steelies, leaving the two assassins quivering in fright in the air. He walked over to the little girls cowering on the floor. She wore a Dark Guiltian and grasped a brand new Fairy Wand.

“Here,” he said to her, offering the two Steelies, “They won’t be troubling you no more.”
“Thank you sir,” she replied in a shy voice.
“See you around.” Vanya continued on his way to the station.

Vanya sat down on a rock, next to Mark’s body, which he had dragged back. He was thinking deeply about his wife he left at home. Surely, she was worrying herself to death about his disappearance. He wanted to go home…

Ryan took a drink of refreshing water in the cool stream. It had been a while since he had eaten, and he was famished. The boars were no longer a source of food, for they had been contaminated with the strange, deteriorating chemical. The only thing left were the various fruits they could find on the trees. He felt the situation grow dire. If they didn’t get out of here soon, they would all die of starvation.

He walked over to the pile of food they had saved. He took two apples and walked back to Michelle. He tossed the better of the two to her, which she accepted gratefully.
“Here, I want you to have this,” she said. She reached into her pack and revealed grabbed a Steely.
“No, you don’t have to…” started Ryan. Michelle put her fingers to his lips, silencing him.
“It is mine to give to whom I will.” She reached for his hand, placed the throwing knife in his hand, and curled his fingers around it. She placed her hands on Ryan’s face, closed her eyes, and gave him a long kiss.

Mark came to in a few hours. By then, the sun had reached the horizon, leaving only another hour or so of its glorious light. He climbed to a spot on top of the caves to watch the setting sun. From his place, he could see the unlimited ocean in front of him. He could hear faintly its waves crashing and breaking on the rocks surrounding the island. He could see the seagulls cruising along, not a care in the world. It was so peaceful. The light breeze slightly ruffled his dark hair. The only thing wrong with this picture was the smoke to the west. What? Smoke to the west? Oh my god…

Mark screamed down the rocks to Vanya. “Vanya there are others on this island! I saw a trail of smoke coming from the west! We are saved!” he cried. Vanya thought for a moment, and then replied, “It’s not other humans.”
“What do you mean? Boars or Snails couldn’t make a fire.”
“It’s the dark hand. That’s where it came from.”
“The dark hand?”
“That’s what knocked you out. I fought it, Mark, I summoned a Dragon too, and I still could not defeat it. Whatever the dark hand is, it is powerful; it is beyond you, me, or anyone else on this island.”

Night fell upon the island. One by one, each of the survivors dozed off into their own dream lands. Ryan could not fall asleep. There was something in the air that did not seem right. He did not feel good about it, but then again, when was the last time he ever felt good about anything? He turned his head towards Michelle who was sound asleep. He looked at her for a few minutes, thinking deeply, then carefully got up and slunk away. He took another refreshing drink from the stream. The only sound he could hear was the rush of the water and the sound of little crickets chirping in the distance.

A sudden rustle in the trees stirred his attention. In a flash, he loaded an arrow into his Asianic Bow. Something charged out of the bushes, but Ryan could not see it. Before he knew it, he was sent hurling backwards. His bow flew out of his hands. Quickly, he dived for his bow and loaded it again, but was sent sprawling to the ground yet again by an unknown force. He jumped up, expecting another attack, but it did not come. Instead, a scream reached Ryan’s ears from the caves. He recognized that scream. Michelle!

It started to rain. Ryan raced towards the caves. Images of Michelle flashed through his mind. He reached the side of the cliffs to see Michelle cowering in the corner. Something was bearing down on her, but he could not see it. Suddenly, she was lifted up into the air, as if an invisible hand grasped her. Then, she was dragged off.

“Michelle!” he cried. Ryan sprinted off after his girl. He crashed through the dense jungle, following her screams
“Ryan! Ryan save me please!” she sobbed.
“I’m coming, Hold on! Don’t go please!” he cried back. He could not see her anymore, but could still hear her screams. Suddenly, he tripped over an upended tree root. He was sent face first into the mud. The rain beat down on him like a fist. The spatter of the rain drowned out the last of Michelle’s screams. Ryan lifted himself up and tried to run after her again, but he lost his sense of direction. He could no longer hear the Michelle’s screams.

Suddenly, he noticed an object protruding from the ground. He picked it up and realized it was a Dark Guiltian. It was Michelle’s Dark Guiltian. “No,” he sobbed, “Please, please come back.”
