The Fire Within Ch-6

Ryan’s eyes flew open. He sat up and a cool gush of wind ruffled his hair. Behind his back was the hard, rocky wall of the cave. Beside him was his girl, Michelle, silently dreaming of the good days. She’s so beautiful, he thought. It’s like fate that we met. We were destined to be together.

He bent down and kissed her soft lips for a few moments, then got up and put on his overall and slung his Asianic on his back. He held his Polyfeathered Hat by the brim as he walked to the waterfall to get a drink. It was his first drink of fresh water in almost a week. He almost forgot the feeling of purity gushing down his throat.

After replenishing his water supply, he dipped himself into the cool stream; his first bath on the island. Slowly, the other survivors groggily woke up and shed their dreams. Their first night in the caves had been more comfortable than the whole week on the beach. There was a sense of protection that was not present on the open beach. Somehow it felt safer confined and closer to the enemy, than out in the open further away.

“Hey,” a soft voice whispered. Ryan felt the water move and slowly turned his head to the left. There was Michelle, slowly dipping herself into the water beside him. With a sigh of relief, she covered herself completely up to her shoulders. Her clothes hugged her body and revealed to Ryan her perfect curves. Ryan put his arm around her…

Mark stood at the edge of the caves. He intently peered into the distance. Vanya teleported up to him and sat down next to him. He closed his eyes and meditated. “Hopefully,” said Mark, “Today will be better than the previous days…”
“I concur.”

The trees shook with the sudden blast of noise. A roar echoed throughout the dense jungle on the island. It was the machine. Ryan tried to cover his ears, but the earsplitting roar forced itself into everyone’s bones. The ground trembled violently like an earthquake. Again, as suddenly as it started, it stopped. Ryan looked around at the fearful eyes of his companions. This has gone on far too long. They needed to figure out what was up with this god forsaken island.

Mark and Vanya suddenly ran up to Ryan. They seemed like they just saw a ghost.
“Ryan,” gasped Mark, “We saw it. It was horrible. It’s gigantic, bigger than a Stone Golem or a Mushmom! The noise, it’s so terrible! Oh my god…” Mark collapsed into Vanya’s arms, unconscious.

Bewildered, Ryan could only imagine what the thing was. Was it a man made machine? Or was it a gigantic monster like a Papulatus, a Balrog maybe? Or maybe it was the legendary Zakum? It was then, when Haris ran out of the jungle, bruises and cuts everywhere. With a soft “Oh,” he fell to the ground. A gentle rumbling came up from behind his body.

A storm of monsters charged out of the underbrush. Vanya hastily teleported over to Haris and back to safety. Ryan loaded two arrows into his bow and fired into the crowd. Two of them fell instantly, and the others charged off back into the thicket. When the dust cleared, the survivors slowly approached the two dead animals. Ryan took one look and recoiled in horror. There in front of him was the most revolting thing he had ever seen. It had the body of a wild boar, but the body was badly burned. There were great tears in the hide which seemed as if it grew too fast for the hide to keep it all in. The blood-red eyes were bulging out of its sockets and its tongue seemed to block its airway. Mark started to approach one but it exploded in a gush of green ooze and slime. A chemical spilled out of its arteries and covered the ground. A hole formed wherever the chemical touched; an acid. It seems as if they were going to die anyways without the arrows in their heads.

Nightfall came. No one dared to move the two monstrosities, which had decayed tremendously. What was this strange chemical that disintegrated the ground? Ryan looked up at the clear, star-filled sky. His eyes just started to droop when a crash aroused him awake. Haris stumbled up to him, his hands bloated and his eyes bloodshot. There were tears at on his hands where blood was gently flowing out. “Help me!”
