Chapter 37: A Reflection of the Past

The sun beat down upon the tiny spec of land jutting out of the blue ocean like the devil’s cauldron. A cool breeze tangoed through the hot sandy beach, curving in and out of the palm trees like a snake. But the sand was discolored, drenched in the crimson and twisted solution of salt water and blood.
Here’s a tribute to all of you awesome people here on MMOTales. Over the year that I’ve been here, I’ve seen a variety of different personalities, writing styles, characteristics, etc. Some are more exciting and happy-go-lucky than others, but that’s ok. Everyone’s different, and I respect that. Anyways, the MMOTalers included in this are the ones that have affected me the most and that I have known the longest. I’m sorry if you’re left out, but if you are, work harder to please me (just kidding). Anyways, here’s a little something just for you guys.
Chapter 36: The Last Leg of the Journey

A sharp pain tore through her skull, cutting into her brain with a jagged uncertainty. She couldn’t scream, she couldn’t breathe, she couldn’t even see clearly. All she felt was her sister dying in her arms, her skin turning blue, her body losing heat. Aaru was dying in Annikabelle’s arms.
Chapter 35: Of Cowardice and Valor

A shell careened through the air, hailed by a deadly whistle. As it landed on the ground, it bounced up, scraping dirt into the air. The golden cylindrical object filled with explosives landed with an abrupt halt right by a tree, the tallest one still remaining. In a brilliant flash of light, the wood disintegrated into miniscule fragments blown out in all directions. Mikhail Shale activated his shield just in time as the intense heat reached him, charring everything around him to ashened crisps.
Chapter 34: Depths of the Mind

A stream of molten hot plasma flash-melted the snow in a straight path directly into the chest cavity of a towering Lycanthrope. As it fell, it’s white fur now charred to a crisp, it gave one last painful howl and then smashed into the snow with a tremendous thud. Aaru eased the pressure on the palm triggers to her K-98 Kage Flamethrower and whipped around. Right behind her, Aaru’s sister was shaking in the kickback of her O-24 Omega Heavy Machine Gun which was shredding hot steel into the torsos of numerous Pangs and Hectors.

Something flashed through Caleios midnight blue eyes, something she couldnt quite put her hands on. She gripped her S-16 Scarab Assault Rifle tightly in her right hand, checking her actions blindly through the white out. Her fingers were numb and frozen onto the cold black steel. Through her communicator, Caleio could hear the groans of the rest of the platoon still on the ground beside her.
Chapter 31: Hands Held High

It was a picturesque scene of bliss and harmony. Mother Nature seemed to be pleasantly generous this morning, using her broad pallet of colors to paint a dazzling epic rising from the far off horizon. The sun, a small orange ball, seemed to float weightlessly up over the sparkling blue water. In the distance, the continuous lapping of waves provided evidence that the world was still here. A gentle breeze brushed through the islands, gently swaying the lush palm trees and high grass.

The life of the night seemed to be stowed away in an instant. Not even the piercing white full moon could reveal my burning soul. I was damned, and I knew it. But as I stood there amidst the silent EDEN, I felt the slightest sensation of hope, of courage, of life. For a brief second, I could almost see the golden gates of heaven stretching out before me. But in a flash, it disappeared from my grasp, and I found myself looking at the dark faces of the men once more.

There was a bright white light at the end of the long, black, and narrow tunnel. Captain Felix Shadeswalker clambered forwards, his sides scraping up against the walls and ceiling of the tunnel in his hurry. The radiance ahead was brilliant blinding, as if the very gates of heaven lay on the other side. But this was not heaven. He had seen death, he had dealt out death. He would not see heaven anytime soon.
